Introducing Megha Morganfield and her harp:

Megha's rich career has taken her from playing in a bluegrass band in Japan at age 20, to winning the O'Carolan Competition with original music for harp and voice in Southern Ireland, to playing for Mass at the Basilica St. Mary's Cathedral in Minneapolis, to being the headliner at the Chicago House in Austin, Texas. Her first composition was for a humanities project while in her senior year at Gainesville High School in northern Florida. And she has just produced her sixth CD: “The Other Side of Now”, available through CD Baby.com.

Although Megha grew up in a musical family, it wasn't until finishing her graduate studies in Community Health Education that she realized that she was being called to devote herself, like her maternal grand-mother, to her first love, music.

First this decision led her to create an a cappella women's chorus right out of college. Then after her move to Arizona she teamed up with artist Jo Ann Lowney to interpret her paintings into vocal pieces in a collaborative show called the "Mythologies Project", sponsored by Arizona State University. She also performed with Dena Wilder, including at the National Women's Music Festival, opening for Tracy Chapman. Megha’s Winter Solstice Carols have given her International notice, for those wishing to celebrate seasonal holidays. Touring as a solo artist has taken her to Europe several times, most recently through Holland and Germany. Megha has also offered herself to teaching within several therapeutic harp programs, including the prestigious Arts and Medicine program at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.

With much acclaim, the opportunities continue to grow for her work. She is now part of the Positive Music Movement. Last summer her song "Can We Hold Hands" was performed at the Unitarian Universalist National Convention in Los Angeles in front of thousands of listeners. Now living in Canada, she is gearing up for playing in the “Meet the Master’s Series” for the Saskatoon Symphony, where her music will be showcased. Megha is also now making video’s of her work, to reach a broader audience. Her YouTube account is morganfieldglynn.

Megha is also a fiber artist, poet and choreographer. Each of these passions receives some of her time. The School of Nursing at the University of Florida recently purchased her Tree of Life, titled: “Shelter, Song and Source”. It is on permanent display there. She is working towards her MFA in Creative Writing, having completed her first year at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She is also now a member of the Saskatchewan Writer’s Collective. Finally, the long awaited video of Megha’s spiritual circle dances, featuring such works as Megha’s “One Peace by One Peace”, is nearing completion and will be available before the end of the year.
